A delicious fondue that can easily be thrown together for unexpected guests, to enhance a special romantic evening, or even to serve the kids after a healthy dinner.


½ cup brown sugar

  • 3 tablespoons butter

  • 2/3 cup half and half

  • 1 heaping tablespoon black strap molasses

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • shortbread cookies

  • chocolate chip cookies

In a medium saucepot on medium heat, mix together the brown sugar and butter. Stir gently until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.

Add the half and half and molasses and bring to a simmer. Blend the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water and while stirring the pot, stream in the cornstarch slurry. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil. Immediately transfer to a fondue pot over a lighted burner. Serve with assorted cookies for dipping. Serves 4
